day 1 at ward 48 (NUH)
Monday, February 9, 2009 9:06 PM the day started off with orientation by sister sarah of the obstetrics and gynae ward. we thought that it was a much much better orientation given compared to the last round. sister sarah was quite smiley and very friendly. after orientation, i had to start building "rapport" with my enrolled nurses and staff nurses. many a times, have to take initiative to ask things and double check stuffs. while my partner yumi went for lunch, i was occupied in my cubicle doing parameters, serving bedpan and changing sanitary pads for my patient. i even got the chance to "off plug", something which i will tremble when doing during last attachment. but this time rd, it was considerably easy for me. will be attached to delivery suite this wed noon and nursery on thurs. i've to start reading up on my childbearing module which was taken last sem, have totally forgotten the stages of labor as well as care of the newborn. i've to perform infant bathing at the quickest and safest speed (to prevent babies fr catching cold) with the supervision of my clinical instructor this thurs, it's nerve-wrecking. nuh is good in a sense because students are allowed to watch deliveries whereas in KK, students are not allowed to do. i hope that there will be quite a bit of deliveries for me to watch on wed. my friend yen ling will be attached there tmr and she get to observe cesarean section of twins! that's so lucky of her! anyway, i'm really quite exhausted, haven't been standing for this long in quite a while. had a mild headache this afternoon again before my dental appt, which is quite worrying. and the fact that i waited 1 hour plus for my turn at the dental really didn't help at all. i really don't like the gaps between my teeth at the sides now, ugly duckling teeth as my dentist termed it. next mth, will start the "pushing" in of my front teeth. yeah! time to read my materials to refresh my memory! good night, guys!
