Orientation
Friday, April 11, 2008 5:40 PM I feel a strong sense of satisfaction. I completed the whole orientation program without running away halfway through, and I bought my study table. I'm progressing well, towards the most exciting week of my life (the week which school is reopening). I made quite a few friends today and even formed a project group already, in thunder speed. However, I always have this fear inside me that I cannot click well with my proj mates. Orientation went well, started off with me getting to know Yen Ling and Choon Hua first. (My future collgs in St Luke's) We were somehow like magnets, 'attracted' to each other as we sat very near each other when we did not know each other YET. And when I started asking which hospital they were bonded to, it was only then we realized that the 3 of us were bonded to St Luke's! Also managed to spoke to quite a few who's bonded to different hospitals like Alexandra, Ren Ci Hospital, SGH and even IMH. I secretly admire the girl for her courage for wanting to go into IMH to work as a nurse. Managed to make use of brunch time to interact with quite a few incld my 2 collgs. Anyway, I discovered 1 interesting trait of Choon Hua! (She looks like Anita Yuen, the HK star) Both of my 2 future colls are very mature, and is many many years older than I am. Our nursing seniors also gave a presentation of some of the things which they have learnt during the nursing course and as well as in the clinical attachment. It turned out that 1 of the senior, Caroline is also bonded to St Luke's, so I guess I'll see her 2 yrs later in St Luke's. Anyway, they kept repeating the fact that days ahead will be tough and told us to be mentally prepared. It's really scary to have people telling you all the negative side of things when you haven't even started on it. I guess it demoralizes you sometimes, but you just have to pick your feet up and put more effort into it and it will work. After all, I chose this route and I mustn't regret it now. There's really no turning back, and I'll just walk on with a brave heart. My timetable seems to be ok, but def more tough than the normal poly students. Lectures and lab practices are back-to-back, meaning that after one lecture/lab ends, you'll have to go for another, no break. (Maybe a few minutes?) Tough tough days ahead. *shakes head* It's interesting to go for LAB lessons in a hospital ward enviroment, operating theatre and it's even amazing to know that you have a simulation patient lying on the bed waiting for you to attend to. The simulation patient (a human-size doll) breathes, has heartbeat etc etc. WOOT!! I'll be meeting Doreen and Manisha at YCK control station on Mon before we get to school together. NYP is like a huge maze, and you can get lost in it anytime. It's wiser to stick with someone else in your class. That way, even if u're late, at least you're not alone. Hee. Some great plan I've eh? =P Anyway, i'm really darn tired and there's so much things to do during the weekends. I feel like screaming 'HELP' even before school starts. Good Friday to all, and God bless.
